Ben  jerrysGearing up for Fair Trade Awareness month in October, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream in Seaport Village is striving to achieve positive change in the way they do business. Ben and Jerry' Ice Cream shops in Seaport Village is participating in the Port of San Diego's Green Business Challenge.

In 2005, Ben & Jerry's was the first ice cream company to use Fair Trade ingredients, products and goods. Fair trade Certified products are from farms where workers are justly treated and compensated and sustainable farming practices are encouraged. Ben & Jerry's is committed to sourcing Fair Trade-certified ingredients when they are available by 2013". Ben  Jerrys 2Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream in Seaport Village recently upgraded their business to be more energy efficient, through San Diego Gas and Electric's Direct Install Program for small businesses. Ben & Jerry's also uses the Tork Advanced Expressnap System with napkins made of 100% recycled material. In addition, the Tork system also cut wastes by 25% by dispensing napkins one at a time. Ben & Jerry's also takes pride in participating in local beach or community park clean ups like the 27th Annual Coastal Clean Up Day held Sept 17. It's a chance for the staff to directly give back to their community sharing a little peace, love & ice cream.
